About

Bob the Drag Queen, born Christopher Delmar Caldwell on June 22, 1986, in Columbus, Georgia, is a drag queen, comedian, actor, activist, musician, author, and reality television personality who also performs under the professional name Caldwell Tidicue. Raised primarily in Clayton County, Georgia, Caldwell moved frequently during childhood, living at various points in Phenix City, Alabama; Corinth, Mississippi; LaGrange, Georgia; and Atlanta, Georgia. His mother owned a drag bar in Columbus, and on nights when she could not afford a babysitter, she brought Caldwell to the bar, where he worked and collected money from patrons. As a teenager, Caldwell attended Morrow High School in Ellenwood, Georgia, before returning to Columbus to study theater at Columbus State University. At age 22, he relocated to Queens, New York, with $500 and two suitcases, intending to pursue Broadway, acting, and stand-up comedy. Prior to establishing his drag career, he worked for years in children's theater.

Caldwell began performing in drag in the summer of 2009, after watching the first season of RuPaul's Drag Race. His earliest stage name was Kittin Withawhip, a reference to the 1964 film Kitten with a Whip starring Ann-Margret, and his early performances incorporated a nine-foot bullwhip. His drag character centered on stand-up comedy from the outset, with lip-syncing added after the first few months. In 2013, he officially adopted the name Bob the Drag Queen, which originated spontaneously during a karaoke hosting engagement. That same year he was featured in Leland Bobbé's Half Drag Series.

Caldwell was revealed as a cast member on the eighth season of RuPaul's Drag Race on February 1, 2016. During the competition, he won three challenges, including the recurring Snatch Game, in which he portrayed Crazy Eyes as played by Uzo Aduba and Carol Channing. On May 16, 2016, he was crowned the winner of the season and received a cash prize of $100,000, earning the title of America's Next Drag Superstar. In June 2019, a panel of judges assembled by New York magazine ranked him eighth on their list of the 100 most powerful drag queens in America.

Following his Drag Race win, Caldwell released the single "Purse First" featuring DJ Mitch Ferrino in 2016 and appeared in the music video for MC Frontalot's "Mornings Come and Go." In 2017, he collaborated with Alaska Thunderfuck on the single "Yet Another Dig," contributed to the compilation album Christmas Queens 3, and recorded the Christmas song "Deck a Ho" with Shangela. On March 15, 2018, he launched the podcast Sibling Rivalry alongside co-host Monét X Change, produced by DJ Mitch Ferrino, with a video version uploaded to YouTube on April 2, 2018. In 2022, he and X Change embarked on the co-headlining Sibling Rivalry Live! tour. His television comedy special Bob the Drag Queen: Suspiciously Large Woman aired on Logo in July 2017.

Caldwell's television credits include appearances on High Maintenance in 2016, Tales of the City in 2019, and A Black Lady Sketch Show in 2019. Beginning in 2020, he co-hosted We're Here on HBO alongside fellow Drag Race contestants Eureka O'Hara and Shangela, a series in which the three travel across the United States to recruit small-town residents to participate in one-night-only drag shows. The series premiered on April 23, 2020, was renewed for a second season premiering October 11, 2021, and was renewed again for a third season in December 2021. In January 2026, he co-hosted The Traitors Official Podcast alongside Boston Rob, recapping weekly episodes of the Peacock reality competition.

On the theatrical stage, Caldwell played the role of Belize in Berkeley Repertory Theatre's production of Angels in America from April to July 2018. In March 2020, he performed in the Nubia tour, a live drag show featuring and produced by Black drag queens, alongside BeBe Zahara Benet, The Vixen, Monique Heart, Peppermint, and Shea Couleé. During Madonna's twelfth world tour, the Celebration Tour, in 2023 and 2024, Caldwell served as emcee, appearing at various moments of the show. In July 2023, he appeared on Dungeons and Drag Queens, the eighteenth season of the actual play anthology series Dimension 20 on Dropout, and reprised the role in the show's second season in 2025.

In January 2026, Caldwell made his Broadway debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical, running for eight weeks at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. His debut novel, Harriet Tubman: Live in Concert, was published in 2025. As of 2026, he is the first Black drag queen to surpass two million Instagram followers.
