About

Bob Dermer is a retired Canadian actor born in Ottawa, Ontario, whose career spanned television, film, voice work, and Broadway. He made his first professional television appearance in 1965, acting in a late-night serial produced in Ottawa called Milk and Honey, which ran for 200 episodes.

Dermer went on to appear in several Canadian children's television productions, including Hi Diddle Day, which aired on the CBC for ten years, and Pencil Box, which followed for an additional six years. His Broadway career included an appearance in 1973 in 42 Seconds from Broadway.

During the 1980s, Dermer took on the recurring role of Sam Crenshaw, a puppet character, on the children's series Today's Special. Concurrently, he provided voices for the animated Raccoons series and its specials, portraying Ralph Raccoon among other characters. He also served as the voice of Grumpy Bear in the Care Bears films and television series during that period. In 1984, while Today's Special was still in production, Dermer was involved in a serious car accident that resulted in a broken clavicle, broken thoracic ribs, and the loss of his left eye. He was unable to perform for five months and wore an eye patch before undergoing an eyeball transplant.

Following his recovery, Dermer made a cameo appearance in the 1994 Walt Disney Pictures film The Santa Clause. His final screen credit was the 1996 made-for-television movie Hostile Advances: The Kerry Ellison Story. He retired from the television industry in 2001.
