About

Bitty Schram is an American actress born in 1968 or 1969, raised in Mountainside, New Jersey. She attended Jonathan Dayton High School, where she competed as an athlete, and later enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park on a tennis scholarship, earning a degree in advertising design. Bitty is a professional nickname she adopted upon entering the acting world. Schram is Jewish.

Her screen career gained early momentum with the 1992 Penny Marshall film A League of Their Own, in which she portrayed Evelyn Gardner, a right fielder for the Rockford Peaches. The character is best remembered as the target of manager Jimmy Dugan's line, delivered by Tom Hanks, "There's no crying in baseball," and as the mother of a notoriously unruly boy named Stilwell.

From 1993 to 1995, Schram appeared in the original Broadway production of Neil Simon's Laughter on the 23rd Floor, marking her credited Broadway work beginning in 1993.

In 2002, she joined the USA Network series Monk in the recurring role of Sharona Fleming, the assistant to Tony Shalhoub's obsessive-compulsive detective. Her tenure on the show ended partway through its third season when the network announced it was moving in a different creative direction. The Hollywood Reporter connected her exit to contract renegotiation efforts among several cast members, including Ted Levine and Jason Gray-Stanford, though those two performers remained with the series. The character of Sharona was subsequently replaced by Natalie Teeger, portrayed by Traylor Howard. Schram later returned to the show for a single guest appearance in the eighth and final season, in an episode titled "Mr. Monk and Sharona."
