About
Bill McIntyre (September 2, 1929 – March 19, 2010) was an American actor whose career spanned Broadway, Off-Broadway, regional theater, and television. Born in Rochester, New York, he was raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
McIntyre built a substantial stage career through work with several prominent regional theater companies, among them the Guthrie Theater in Minnesota, the Long Wharf Theatre in Connecticut, and the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, New Jersey. He also toured nationally with the company of The Great White Hope. His Off-Broadway work included a production of The Fantasticks, and his last public performance took place in a New York City staging of You Can't Take It with You.
His Broadway career ran from 1972 to 1978 and included three productions: The Secret Affairs of Mildred Wild, in which he appeared alongside actress Maureen Stapleton; The Inspector General; and Legend.
Beyond the stage, McIntyre accumulated television credits that included appearances on Newhart, Dallas, and Murphy Brown.
McIntyre died of natural causes on March 19, 2010, in Englewood, New Jersey, at the age of 80. At the time of his death he had been residing at the Actors Fund Home in Englewood.
