Bill Heck is an American actor whose work spans Broadway, television, and film. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, he relocated to Libertyville, Illinois during childhood. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Evansville in Indiana before completing a graduate degree in acting at New York University.
Heck's Broadway career spans from 2005 to 2022 and includes productions such as Brooklyn, Take Me Out, and Cabaret. The 2014 Cabaret revival marked his first Broadway leading role. His stage work extends to significant off-Broadway productions, among them Horton Foote's The Orphans' Home Cycle, Angels in America alongside Buster Scruggs co-star Zoe Kazan, and Water by the Spoonful. He received a Theatre World Award in 2010.
In 2011, Heck married Broadway co-star Maggie Lacey. On the festival circuit, he earned the Grand Jury Award for Best Actor at L.A. Outfest in 2013 for his performance in Pit Stop.
Heck's film work includes the role of Billy Knapp in the Coen Brothers' The Ballad of Buster Scruggs, appearing in the vignette "The Gal Who Got Rattled," one of six stories set in the American Wild West. To prepare for the part, he read Rinker Buck's The Oregon Trail: A New American Journey. His television credits include The Leftovers, a guest appearance in The Alienist, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and The Old Man.
