About

Beverly Lunsford was an American actress born on January 5, 1945, in Atlanta, Georgia. She died on May 22, 2019.

Lunsford made her Broadway debut at age 12 in the 1957 drama The Rope Dancers, a production that featured Siobhán McKenna and Art Carney. Her early career extended across stage, television, and film, with appearances in anthology dramas preceding a series of guest roles on television programs including National Velvet, My Three Sons, and Leave It to Beaver. She also appeared on the daytime serial The Edge of Night and took on a temporary role as Amy Ames Britton Kincaid on the CBS soap opera The Secret Storm, substituting for the series' principal performer, Jada Rowland.

In 1961, Lunsford took a starring role in Roger Corman's drama The Intruder, a film addressing race relations in the American South following the Supreme Court's 1954 ruling in Brown v. Board of Education. Two years later, in 1963, she appeared in Herbert L. Strock's horror film The Crawling Hand. Her final screen credit came in 1969, though she continued to participate in public celebrity events for the remainder of her life. She is perhaps most widely recognized for her portrayal of Shirley Fletcher on the television sitcom Leave It to Beaver.
