About

Betty George (April 11, 1926 – November 16, 2007) was an American singer and Broadway performer of Greek descent, born in Manchester, New Hampshire. She established herself as a vocalist during the big band era before transitioning to stage and television work.

George built her early career in New York, where she performed as a soloist with several prominent big bands, including those led by Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, and Tommy Dorsey. She recorded during this period for both Decca Records and CBS Studios.

Her Broadway career spanned from 1948 to 1955 and included four productions. She appeared in Heaven on Earth and As the Girls Go, both in 1948, followed by the musical Kiss Me! and Ankles Aweigh in 1955.

Alongside her stage work, George maintained a substantial television presence. She served as a regular on The Jerry Lester Show, an ABC variety program, during the 1953–1954 season, and worked with Milton Berle over a period of more than sixteen years.
