About
Betty Alden (August 21, 1891 – July 4, 1948) was an American actress whose career spanned stage and screen across several decades. She was married to Irish actor Edwin Maxwell, with whom she shared the stage in the play Life With Father.
Alden's Broadway career ran from 1920 to 1927 and included appearances in Anna Ascends, Great Music, The Virginian, Shore Leave, and Tangletoes. In 1927 she took on the role of Nellie in the theatrical production The Virgin Man. Beyond Broadway, she appeared in a number of films, beginning with The Seventh Day in 1922. Her screen work continued into the sound era with Lightnin' in 1930, followed by Fugitive Lady, The Fountain, and The Nut Farm, all released in 1934 and 1935. In The Nut Farm, an adaptation of a successful stage play, Alden portrayed Helen Bent opposite Wallace Ford in one of the lead roles. She went on to appear in Carnival and People Will Talk, both in 1935, as well as Captains Courageous in 1937 and The Story of Dr. Wassell in 1944.
Alden died on July 4, 1948, and is buried at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood, California.
