About

Bernard Adolph Reinold (1860 – March 19, 1940) was an American stage actor whose Broadway career spanned from 1903 to 1925. He also performed under the stage name Adolph Bernard.

Born in New York City, Reinold was the son of Bernard Henry Reinold, who served as head of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. At age 15, he ran away to sea rather than pursue a medical career, spending four years aboard a whaling boat. He later served in both the Spanish–American War and World War I, and was ultimately buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

Reinold's stage career included work supporting Lawrence Barrett, as well as periods with Rose Coghlan's company and Charles Frohman's company. He also held a position on the executive staff of producer William A. Brady. His Broadway credits encompassed productions including The Unwritten Chapter, The Drums of Jeopardy, Beware of Widows, Flame of Love, and Quarantine, the latter a 1924 production in which he appeared alongside Helen Hayes.

Following the conclusion of his performing career, Reinold became superintendent of the Percy Williams Home for Retired Actors in 1926. He remained there until his death on March 19, 1940. His papers from 1893 to 1924 are held in the Billy Rose Theatre Division of the New York Public Library.
