About
Ben Schnetzer is an American actor born to actor Stephen Schnetzer, whose ancestry is German, Irish, and Algerian, and actress Nancy Snyder. He trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he secured the role of Max Vandenburg in the film adaptation of The Book Thief (2013) during his final year of study.
Schnetzer's early screen work included an episode of Law & Order in 2010 and a supporting role in the ABC series Happy Town that same year. His film career gained significant momentum with Pride (2014), in which he portrayed activist Mark Ashton, earning him two British Independent Film Award nominations. Also in 2014, he appeared in The Riot Club as Oxford University student Dimitri Mitropoulos.
In 2016, Schnetzer starred opposite Nick Jonas in Goat, a film centered on college hazing, in which he played Brad Land. That year he also appeared in Punk's Dead, Warcraft, and Snowden. He subsequently took on the role of British-Kenyan journalist Dan Eldon in the biopic The Journey Is the Destination.
The year 2018 marked a period of considerable activity for Schnetzer. He made his Broadway debut playing in The Nap at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre. That same year he appeared in the Epix miniseries The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair, an adaptation of Joël Dicker's novel, as Marcus Goldman. His 2018 film credits include Entebbe, The Grizzlies, The Death & Life of John F. Donovan, and Saint Judy, followed by The Giant in 2019.
Schnetzer was cast as Yorick Brown, the protagonist of the FX on Hulu series Y: The Last Man, which premiered in 2021. In September 2022, he played Eli in the European premiere of Eureka Day at The Old Vic in London. He appeared in the Netflix science fiction series 3 Body Problem in 2024 as young Mike Evans. Schnetzer is in a relationship with theatre and television director Kate Hewitt, and the couple have a daughter and a son.
