About
Ben Levi Ross (born January 15, 1998) is an American stage actor and singer who grew up in Santa Monica, California, where they attended Santa Monica High School and participated in its theater program. In 2016, Ross was named a Presidential Scholar of the Arts through the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program and was a grand prize finalist for the Music Center Spotlight Awards that same year. Following high school, Ross attended Carnegie Mellon University for a year and a half before pursuing a professional acting career.
Ross's path to Broadway began at an audition for The Low Road at New York's Public Theater, where Dear Evan Hansen director Michael Greif took notice and suggested Ross for an understudy position in that production's cast. Ross made their Broadway debut in Dear Evan Hansen as the character Jared, subsequently spending ten months understudying the roles of Evan, Connor, and Jared. In 2018, Ross departed the Broadway company to join the show's first national tour in the title role of Evan Hansen, remaining with that production until September 15, 2019.
In January and February 2020, Ross starred as Henry in the Kennedy Center's production of Next to Normal. From March to May 2022, Ross returned to the Broadway production of Dear Evan Hansen in the title role for a limited engagement. That same year, Ross appeared in the film Tick, Tick... Boom! as the character Freddy.
In the summer of 2024, Ross portrayed Nick Carraway in Florence Welch's Gatsby: An American Myth at the American Repertory Theatre. Later that fall, Ross played Mother's Younger Brother in New York City Center's Encores! production of Ragtime, alongside Joshua Henry, Caissie Levy, and Colin Donnell. Ross received a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical in 2024. Ross also joined the cast of the CBS drama Elsbeth in a recurring role as Teddy, the son of the title character Elsbeth Tascioni, appearing in the show's second season. Ross is set to reprise the role of Mother's Younger Brother in a Broadway revival of Ragtime at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, scheduled to run from September 2025 through January 2026.
Ross was born into a Jewish family and is gay and non-binary, using they/them and he/him pronouns.
