About

Robert Benedict Browder was born on December 11, 1962, in Memphis, Tennessee, and was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. His parents were race car owners and operators. He attended Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where he earned a degree in psychology and played on the university's football team. Browder later studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, where he met actress Francesca Buller, who would become his wife.

Browder made his Broadway debut in 1989, appearing in The Merchant of Venice. He went on to build a substantial career in film and television as an actor, writer, and director.

On television, Browder appeared as Sam Brody in a recurring capacity during the third season of Party of Five in 1997. He then took on the lead role of American astronaut John Crichton in the science fiction series Farscape, which ran from 1999 to 2003. During production, Browder and Buller relocated to Australia with their two children. Buller appeared in several guest roles on the series. Following Farscape's cancellation, the family returned to the United States in 2003. Browder reprised the role of Crichton in the 2004 Sci Fi Channel miniseries Farscape: The Peacekeeper Wars, which resolved the series' remaining storylines.

His performance in Farscape earned him two Saturn Awards for Best Actor in a Television Series, with wins in 2002 and 2004. He also received Saturn Award nominations in 2000, 2001, and 2003 for the same role, and a further nomination in 2005 for his work on Stargate SG-1.

In 2005, Browder joined the cast of Stargate SG-1 for its ninth season, portraying Lieutenant Colonel Cameron Mitchell, the new commanding officer of the SG-1 team. His former Farscape co-star Claudia Black joined the series as a regular cast member beginning with its tenth season in 2006. Several episodes of Stargate SG-1, including the episode "200," made comedic references to Farscape during the period when both Browder and Black were on the show. Browder performed many of his own stunts throughout his time on the series.

Among his film credits, Browder appeared in the 2004 feature A Killer Within, alongside C. Thomas Howell and Sean Young, and portrayed actor Lee Majors in the 2004 television film Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of Charlie's Angels. In 2012, he was cast in the Doctor Who episode "A Town Called Mercy," filmed in Almeria, Spain. That same year, he played Max the Janitor in the live-action film Bad Kids Go to Hell, based on the graphic novel of the same name. He reprised the role in the 2017 sequel Bad Kids of Crestview Academy, which also marked his feature directorial debut.

In January 2005, Browder provided the voice of Bartholomew Aloysius "Bat" Lash in the Justice League Unlimited episode "The Once and Future Thing, Part 1: Weird Western Tales." In October 2003, he narrated the audiobook edition of Interlopers, a novel written by Alan Dean Foster.
