About
Elizabeth Greer Feldstein, known professionally as Beanie Feldstein, was born on June 24, 1993, in Los Angeles, California. The nickname "Beanie" was given to her by her nanny during infancy and was also used by her brothers. She is the youngest of three children and the only daughter of Sharon Lyn Feldstein, a costume designer and fashion stylist, and Richard Feldstein, a tour accountant for Guns N' Roses. Her older brothers are actor Jonah Hill and Jordan Feldstein, a Maroon 5 manager who died suddenly at age 40 from a blood clot in 2017. Feldstein is Jewish and attended the Harvard-Westlake School in Los Angeles, as well as Stagedoor Manor, a theatre camp in New York. She earned a degree in sociology from Wesleyan University in 2015. Actor Ben Platt, with whom she later appeared on Broadway and in film projects, has been her close friend since high school.
Feldstein's acting career began in 2002 with an appearance on the ABC comedy series My Wife and Kids. She continued building her résumé through television, including a guest role in the third season of Netflix's Orange Is the New Black in 2015 and a recurring role as Jenna in the first season of What We Do in the Shadows in 2019. She also guest starred in episodes of Will & Grace and Grey's Anatomy, the latter of which she described as a childhood dream. In 2021, she portrayed Monica Lewinsky in Impeachment: American Crime Story, the third season of the FX anthology series.
Her film career gained significant momentum with Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, released on May 20, 2016, alongside Seth Rogen and Zac Efron. The following year she co-starred with Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf in Greta Gerwig's Lady Bird, a film nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture; Feldstein was among the cast nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. In 2019, she starred in Olivia Wilde's directorial debut Booksmart, earning a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture–Comedy or Musical. She subsequently portrayed Johanna Morrigan in How to Build a Girl, an adaptation of Caitlin Moran's 2014 novel. Additional film credits include The Female Brain, which premiered at the LA Film Festival in June 2017, and The Humans, based on Stephen Karam's one-act play. She is also set to appear in Richard Linklater's film adaptation of Merrily We Roll Along, a production being filmed over the course of twenty years, alongside Ben Platt and Paul Mescal.
Feldstein made her Broadway debut in the 2017 revival of Hello, Dolly!, playing Minnie Fay opposite Bette Midler as Dolly Levi. The production began previews on March 15, 2017, and opened on April 20, 2017. She returned to Broadway in 2022 to take on the lead role of Fanny Brice in the first revival of Funny Girl, a performance that earned her a nomination for the Drama League Award for Distinguished Performance. Feldstein later departed the production, and she was replaced by Lea Michele on September 6, 2022.
In her personal life, Feldstein met British film producer Bonnie-Chance Roberts on the set of How to Build a Girl in 2019. The two became engaged in June 2022 and married on May 19, 2023. Feldstein has publicly identified as queer.
