About
Bart Braverman, born Bartley Louis Braverman on February 1, 1946, is an American former actor whose career spanned more than four decades across television, film, and stage. He is the son of producer Herb Braverman and actress Kendall Carly Browne, and his brother Chuck Braverman works as a television director and producer. After graduating from Fairfax High School, Braverman studied at the College of San Mateo, Marin College, and Sonoma State before completing a drama degree at Carnegie Tech. Prior to establishing himself as an actor, he held a range of jobs including busing dishes, delivering telephone books, parking cars, and working for Kelly Services.
Braverman's earliest work in front of the camera came as a child actor, when he and his brother appeared together in milk commercials. Between 1955 and 1962, he accumulated guest appearances on television series including I Love Lucy, Have Gun – Will Travel, and Wagon Train, as well as a role as an Indian boy in a 1959 episode of Rawhide. During this period he was frequently credited under the name Bart Bradley. His film work as a child included credited roles in Cell 2455 Death Row (1955) and 20 Million Miles to Earth (1957). A 1962 episode of Bachelor Father marked both his final credit as Bart Bradley and his last acting work before a lengthy hiatus.
He returned to the profession at age 29 with a 1975 appearance on Columbo, after which he worked steadily in television and film for the next four decades. His most prominent role came on the ABC primetime series Vega$, which ran from 1978 to 1981, where he played Bobby "Binzer" Borso, the field assistant and legman to the character Dan Tanna. In 1979, Braverman publicly expressed dissatisfaction with how the character had been written, noting that writers had reduced Binzer to only two traits — stupidity and cowardice — despite the broader range of characteristics he had envisioned for the role. He also co-starred in the 1982–83 television series The New Odd Couple. Among his many guest appearances were episodes of M*A*S*H, Seinfeld, and Shameless, along with a voice role on Fangface. His film credits include Alligator (1980) and 8 Heads in a Duffel Bag (1997).
Braverman was a frequent presence on game show television as well, appearing on the syndicated Match Game between 1979 and 1982, on Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour in 1984, and on Password Plus in both 1979 and 1980 alongside his Vega$ co-star Robert Urich.
His stage work includes the 1972 Broadway production of Godspell. Braverman was married for eight years before divorcing.
