About
Barry Sloane, born Barry Paul Sloane on 10 February 1981 in Liverpool, England, is an English actor whose work spans theatre, television, film, and video games. From an early age, he pursued performance across multiple disciplines, playing football from age seven, participating in drama throughout his youth, and fronting the band The Smiling Jackals as lead singer and bass guitarist from his late teens. The band toured extensively across the UK before Sloane departed to pursue a television role, a decision he has described as a pivotal turning point in his career. In 2023, he announced the band's reunion after a 23-year hiatus.
Sloane's stage career began in mid-2009 when he appeared as Troy Whitworth in Jez Butterworth's play Jerusalem at London's Royal Court Theatre. The production transferred to the West End in January 2010, and following a record-breaking sellout run, it moved to Broadway. Sloane made his Broadway debut in Jerusalem at the Music Box Theatre on 4 February 2011, bringing the role he had originated to New York audiences.
His British television work includes appearances in DCI Banks, as well as the RTS Royal Television Society Programme Awards and BAFTA Award-winning films Pleasureland and The Mark of Cain. On 10 July 2012, he joined the cast of the ABC drama series Revenge, portraying Aiden Mathis, a character with ties to the show's central protagonist Emily Thorne. He was promoted to series regular on 23 October 2012. In February 2014, he was cast as Wes Lawrence in The Whispers, a science fiction drama series produced by Steven Spielberg. He also appeared in the sixth and final season of Longmire in 2017, reprising his role as Zach.
In film, Sloane starred alongside Michael Keaton and Michelle Monaghan in Joseph Ruben's 2013 thriller Penthouse North. In video games, he voiced and motion captured Captain Price in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, earning a nomination for the British Academy Games Award for Performer in a Leading Role, and reprised the role in Modern Warfare II in 2022 and Modern Warfare III in 2023.
Sloane was cast as Destruction, also known as The Prodigal, in the second season of Netflix's The Sandman, with the announcement confirmed in 2024. In 2025, he joined the cast of HBO's House of the Dragon for its third season, portraying Ser Adrian Redfort, a knight who supports Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen during the Dance of the Dragons.
Sloane is married to Katy O'Grady, who finished fourth in the third series of the Sky One programme Project Catwalk. The couple have two children: a daughter, Gracie Bluebell Sloane, born in 2010, and a son, Lennon Michael Sloane, born in 2016.
