George Barry Lupino-Hook, known professionally as Barry Lupino, was born on January 7, 1884, in London, England, and died on September 26, 1962. An English comedian and film actor, he was also recognized as a notable pantomime dame.
Lupino came from a prominent theatrical family. His brother Stanley Lupino was an actor and comedian, and his uncle relationship extended to actresses Ida and Rita Lupino. His daughter Antoinette Lupino also pursued a career as an actress.
On Broadway, Lupino was active from 1916 to 1929, appearing in both musical productions and plays. Among his credits was a starring role in the musical Robinson Crusoe, Jr. He also appeared in the musical Babes in Toyland, the play The Red Robe, and the musical The Love Call.
Lupino maintained a parallel career in film. His screen appearances included Barry Butts In in 1919, Never Trouble Trouble in 1931, Master and Man in 1934, Sporting Love in 1936, Bed and Breakfast and The Sky's the Limit both in 1938, Garrison Follies in 1940, and What Do We Do Now? in 1946.
Lupino was married three times, to Gertrude Latchford, Mary Georgina Gordon Anstruther, and Doriel M. Phillips.
