Barbara Rosenblat

Barbara Rosenblat is a British-American actress and audiobook narrator born on July 17, 1950, in London, England. Raised in New York City in a Jewish family, she attended Hebrew school as a child. Her Broadway career spanned from 1991 to 2007 and included appearances in the musical The Secret Garden and the play Talk Radio.

Rosenblat's path into professional theatre began in England. After traveling to London for a family wedding, she chose to remain in the country and subsequently secured a role in a production of Godspell. She went on to work across multiple areas of the British entertainment industry, including theatre, radio, film, and television. Upon returning to the United States, she spent four years at the Library of Congress narrating books for the blind before establishing herself on Broadway.

Beyond the stage, Rosenblat is recognized for her television work, including her portrayal of Miss Rosa in the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. She has also built an extensive career as an audiobook narrator, having recorded more than 400 titles across a wide range of genres. Her narrations span classic literature such as Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, the literary fiction of T. C. Boyle, short stories by Kurt Vonnegut, and paranormal romance novels by Katie McAllister. She is particularly associated with long-running mystery and crime fiction series, including Dorothy Gilman's Mrs. Pollifax series, Elizabeth Peters's Amelia Peabody series, Nevada Barr's Anna Pigeon series, Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series, and Laura Lippman's Tess Monaghan series, among others. AudioFile recognized her work in this field by naming her a Golden Voice narrator, a distinction that reflects her command of both British and American English accents.
