About

Barbara Bostock is a retired American actress born on December 19, 1935, in Palm Beach, Florida, where she was raised as an only child. Her father, George Bostock, was a shoemaker who had relocated to Florida from Georgia, and her mother was Frances Bostock. Bostock began dancing at the age of eight and attended Palm Beach High School before pursuing a professional career in performance.

Bostock's Broadway work took place between 1954 and 1955 and included two productions. In 1955 she appeared in Silk Stockings at the Imperial Theatre. She also took over the role of Gladys from Pat Stanley during the national tour of The Pajama Game.

Her screen career began in 1957 with a television appearance on The George Gobel Show, followed by her film debut in 1958 in two pictures, Girls on the Loose and Senior Prom. In 1960 she was cast in the Jerry Lewis film Visit to a Small Planet, playing a beatnik dancer named Desdemona under the stage name Barbara Lawson. That same name appeared in her work on an episode of The Millionaire alongside Dennis Hopper and Jack Larson. Also in 1960, she guest starred in the first-season Route 66 episode "Play it Glissando."

During the early 1960s, Bostock performed in summer stock productions of Annie Get Your Gun and Can-Can. Her television work included guest appearances on General Electric Theater, I Dream of Jeannie, and The Rookies, as well as roles in the TV movies Delancey Street: The Crisis Within and The Spell, the latter featuring Lee Grant. She also portrayed Margaret on The Farmer's Daughter.

Her most sustained role came on the ABC comedy series Love on a Rooftop, which starred Pete Duel and Judy Carne as a young married couple. Bostock played Carol Parker, neighbor and close friend to the central characters, appearing in all 30 episodes of the series alongside Rich Little, who played her husband Stan.
