About
Ava Della Pietra is an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and Broadway performer born on May 31, 2005, in New York to an Italian-American family. She began performing at age four and writing original songs at age five. She plays violin, guitar, piano, and bass guitar, and is enrolled in the Harvard University and Berklee School of Music dual degree program, class of 2027.
Della Pietra's stage career began at age seven, when she performed on the national tours of Les Misérables and Irving Berlin's White Christmas. She subsequently joined the original Broadway cast of School of Rock – The Musical, completing her Broadway work between 2011 and 2015. Her television appearances include Good Morning America, Sesame Street on PBS, the Tony Awards, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
Della Pietra launched her solo recording career in 2019 with the single "Christmas Tonight," co-written with producing partner Will Hicks. Tiger Beat named it one of the best holiday songs of 2019. Her 2020 single "Optimist" received coverage from American Songwriter Magazine and Newsday. That same year she performed the national anthem at the New York Open at Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. In 2021 she released the single "Home," which Parade covered in its coverage of the track.
Her 2022 debut EP, truth or truth, was produced in collaboration with Nashville-based producer Steven Martinez. The lead single "i've been thinking" was the first release from the project, and she performed another track from the EP, "power of you," on WSMV's Today in Nashville.
In 2023 Della Pietra released the singles "happy for you," "it started with u," and "ego." The song "ego" earned her the top prize in the Songwriters Guild of America SGA Awards Pop Song contest and a Los Angeles Film Award for Best Song. The music video for "ego," directed by Adam Lukowski, received Best Video of 2023 recognition from the Sweden Film Awards, New York International Film Awards, Berlin Indie Film Festival, London Independent Film Awards, Los Angeles International Film Festival's Indie Short Fest, and the Rome International Movie Awards. She followed the release with an additional single, "talk it out."
In 2025 Della Pietra released the singles "Marionette," "Moon Over Capri," "2 Can Play," and "Single for Life." "Marionette" won Best Music Video and Best Song at multiple festivals, including the Cannes World Film Festival. "Moon Over Capri," dedicated to Della Pietra's grandfather, also won Best Music Video and Best Song at multiple film festivals, including the Cannes World Film Festival and the International Independent Film Awards. "2 Can Play" received coverage from Indie Boulevard and won multiple awards, including Best Pop Music Video at the Hollywood Best Indie Film Festival. "Single for Life" was co-produced with Alex Koste and was covered by Lock, a UK-based music publication focused on female musicians.
