About
Auguste Aramini (14 May 1875 – 27 May 1950) was a French-born Canadian singer and Broadway performer whose career spanned several decades on the New York stage. Born in Agen, France, he is believed to have emigrated to Canada as part of the theatre performance company led by René Harmant, an ensemble that arrived in Canada in 1897.
During his time in Montreal, Aramini made several recordings for the Berliner label, among them Faut te faire vacciner and Adieux d'amants. In 1905, the Ligues de Vertu à Montréal pressured the Montreal theatre industry over concerns about the moral content of current productions, and Harmant's company subsequently departed for New York. Aramini accompanied the company on that move.
His Broadway career extended from 1916 to 1940 and encompassed both plays and musicals. His stage credits included The Music Master, the musical Criss Cross, and the plays Ada Beats the Drum, When Ladies Meet, and The Demi-Virgin, among other productions.
In 1947, Aramini married Belgian opera singer and radio actress Jeanne Maubourg in Montreal. He died on 27 May 1950.
