About
Asia Kate Dillon is an American actor born on November 15, 1984, in Ithaca, New York. Dillon identifies as non-binary, uses singular they/them pronouns, and is pansexual. They completed the Meisner training program at The Actor's Workshop of Ithaca at age 16 during their junior year of high school, becoming the youngest student ever admitted to the class. Dillon later graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
Dillon's early stage work included the title role in the 2007 production of My Name Is Rachel Corrie, followed by participation in a workshop of plays alongside Academy Award- and Tony Award-winning playwrights. They subsequently took on a featured lead role as Lucifer in The Mysteries and appeared in The Tempest at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington, D.C. Their Broadway career includes a 2022 appearance in Macbeth.
On television, Dillon portrayed white supremacist inmate Brandy Epps across eight episodes of Orange Is the New Black in 2016, making them one of the first openly non-binary actors cast in a prominent television role. Beginning in 2017, they appeared in season two of Showtime's Billions as Taylor Mason, a non-binary hedge fund intern widely recognized as the first non-binary main character on mainstream North American television. Showtime confirmed in April 2017 that Mason would join the main cast in season three. Dillon received a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for the role. When submitting for Emmy Award consideration, Dillon chose the category designation of "actor" rather than "actress," citing its gender-neutral quality. That effort contributed to the MTV Movie & TV Awards combining their previously gender-segregated acting categories. Dillon presented the award for Best Actor at that ceremony on May 7, 2017. In 2019, they appeared as the Adjudicator in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, and it was announced in November 2018 that they would appear in The Outside Story.
Dillon is the founder and producing director of MIRROR/FIRE Productions, which created US, a performance piece examining racism and the Black Lives Matter movement. On March 28, 2020, they released their debut EP, Handsomehands, with proceeds directed to the Marsha P. Johnson Institute. In June 2019, Queerty named Dillon one of their Pride50 honorees, recognizing trailblazing individuals working toward equality and dignity for LGBTQ people, timed to the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots.
