About
Ashley Tuttle is an American actress, dancer, and choreographer from Columbia, South Carolina whose career has spanned classical ballet, contemporary dance, and Broadway musical theatre. She joined American Ballet Theatre at age 16 and rose to the rank of principal dancer in 1997, ultimately spending 17 years with the company as a prima ballerina. In 2000, while continuing her tenure with American Ballet Theatre, she also became a member of the Twyla Tharp Dance Company.
Tuttle made her Broadway debut in 2003 in Movin' Out, a stage production built around the music of Billy Joel, in which she played the role of Judy. Her performance earned her a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. She remained active on Broadway through 2010, with her credits also including the play Fly Away Home.
Beyond performing, Tuttle has taught ballet at the Mark Morris Dance Group, the Usdan Center, and Barnard College. On May 22, 2011, Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina conferred upon her an honorary doctorate of humanities degree.
