About

Anthony Boyle is an Irish actor born on 8 June 1994 in west Belfast, Northern Ireland. He attended De La Salle College before transferring to St Louise's Comprehensive College, an all-girls school on the Falls Road, where he was among approximately 10 boys enrolled alongside 2,000 female students. During his time there, Boyle participated actively in the drama department, taking on numerous male roles. As a child, a bone condition required him to use a wheelchair for several years, an experience he has credited with developing his improvisational instincts, as he would create dialogue while observing other children at play. At 16, he was expelled from his boys' school in Belfast before enrolling at St Louise's. He began formal training in 2013 at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, earning a BA in acting upon graduation in 2016.

Boyle launched his professional career on the London stage before originating the role of Scorpius Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, first in the West End production in 2016 and subsequently on Broadway in 2018. The role brought him significant recognition, including the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role and a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actor in a Play. His Broadway appearance also earned him a Theatre World Award in 2018.

Beyond the stage, Boyle has built a screen career across film and television. His film appearances include Tolkien in 2019 and Tetris in 2023. On television, he appeared in the miniseries Masters of the Air in 2024 and the drama Say Nothing, also in 2024, in which he portrayed Brendan Hughes. Boyle has noted a personal connection to that production, as the streets depicted in the series were familiar to him from his upbringing, and a mural of Hughes stood near his former school on the Falls Road. He is also set to appear in House of Guinness in 2025.

Boyle has maintained a longstanding friendship with fellow Belfast-born actor Lola Petticrew, dating back to age 11. The two appeared together in early stage productions, including a version of Romeo and Juliet, which Boyle has described as among the least polished work of his early career. Petticrew has described Boyle as one of her closest friends. Boyle is also a longtime friend of Frank Blake, who appeared alongside him in Say Nothing portraying Seamus Wright.
