Anthony Asbury

Anthony Asbury is an American actor and puppeteer from Arlington, Texas, whose career in puppetry spans more than three decades.

Asbury launched his professional career on the British ITV satirical series Spitting Image, where he worked from 1984 to 1992. During that run he performed the majority of the show's characters and provided voices for several of them, including Pope John Paul II, John McEnroe, and Edwin Meese. Beginning in the second season, Asbury shared puppeteering duties for the Margaret Thatcher character with Steve Nallon. It was through this work that he met Louise Gold, who in turn introduced him to Jim Henson, then in production on the fantasy film Labyrinth. Henson brought Asbury on to perform several creatures in the film, including Firey 5, One of the Four Guards, and the Right Door Knocker.

Following Labyrinth, Asbury maintained a long association with the Henson company, contributing puppet performances to The Witches, The Flintstones, and The Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss, where his characters included Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose, Yertle the Turtle, the Grinch, Terrence McBird, and additional Muppets. His television work also encompassed Round the Bend, Harry's Mad, Allegra's Window, in which he played Rondo and Poco, Between the Lions, where he performed Lionel Lion, and Noddy. He additionally appeared in an episode of Absolutely Fabulous.

Asbury brought his puppeteering work to the stage as well, appearing on Broadway in 2003 in Little Shop of Horrors.
