About

Ann Andrews (October 13, 1890 – January 23, 1986) was an American stage actress born in Los Angeles, California, whose Broadway career spanned three decades, from 1917 to 1947. Her parents were Josias J. Andrews and Ann Andrews, née Anthony. She received her theatrical training at Frank Egan's Dramatic School in Los Angeles and made her first stage appearance in that city in 1916.

Andrews made her New York debut in 1917 at the Bandbox Theatre on Broadway, appearing in the play Nju in the title role — the same role she had originated when the production opened in Los Angeles. Over the following decades she accumulated a substantial list of Broadway credits, including the drama Public Relations, the comedy Spring Again, Up from Nowhere, Two Married Men, and De Luxe. She was also part of the original Broadway productions of several notable plays, among them The Hottentot (1920), The Captive (1926), The Royal Family (1927), and Dinner at Eight (1932).

Beyond Broadway, Andrews worked extensively in stock theater, including with a company at the Lyceum in Rochester, New York, as well as in summer theater circuits in Bucks County and Cape Cod. Despite her long career in the theater, she appeared in only two films, remaining throughout her professional life primarily a stage actress.

Andrews died in New York City at the age of 95 and was interred at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York.
