About
Anjali Bhimani is an American actress and voice actress born in Cleveland, Ohio, to physicians Ela and Bharat Bhimani. Of Indian Sindhi descent, she was raised in Orange County, California, and pursued her education at Northwestern University.
Bhimani's stage career developed through a sustained creative partnership with director Mary Zimmerman that began in 1997, when she appeared as an Indian princess in Mirror of the Invisible World, a production adapted from the 12th-century Persian epic Haft Peykar. The following year she originated the role of the Greek mythological figure Myrrha in Zimmerman's Metamorphoses at the Lookingglass Theatre Company, which marked the world premiere of the production. She reprised the role when the show moved to an Off-Broadway engagement at the Second Stage Theatre in 2001, earning notice from Chicago Reader critic Albert Williams, who described her as a "stunning dancer." Metamorphoses transferred to Broadway's Circle in the Square Theatre in 2002, marking Bhimani's Broadway debut.
Her second Broadway credit came in 2004 with Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Bombay Dreams at The Broadway Theatre, where she joined the production as an understudy for the characters played by Ayesha Dharker and Madhur Jaffrey. When Dharker departed the production, Bhimani assumed her role. Beyond Broadway, Bhimani appeared as The Sparrow in the Czech opera Brundibár in 2006, and in 2011 she co-produced and co-directed Quake, which opened at the Open Fist Theatre Company's First Look Festival of New Plays. She reunited with Zimmerman in 2013 to play the mother wolf in the Goodman Theatre's production of The Jungle Book.
Bhimani has accumulated a wide range of television credits, with appearances on All My Children, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Sopranos, Journeyman, Shark, Flight of the Conchords, and Modern Family. In voice acting, she is best known for portraying Symmetra in the first-person shooter video game Overwatch and Rampart in Apex Legends. Her work on Overwatch earned her a share of the 2016 Behind the Voice Actors Award for Best Vocal Ensemble in a Video Game alongside her fellow cast members.
Bhimani has also established a presence in the actual play community. She guest starred on Exandria Unlimited, a spinoff of the web series Critical Role, in 2021, and in 2023 portrayed Queen Amangeaux Epicée du Peche in Dimension 20: The Ravening War. In March 2025, she released her first Dungeons & Dragons adventure module, The Malady of Minarrh, on D&D Beyond through her company Road to Ithaka Press.
