Angelo Infanti

Angelo Infanti was an Italian film and stage actor born on February 16, 1939, in Zagarolo, Italy. Over the course of a career spanning nearly five decades, he accumulated credits in more than 90 films between 1961 and 2010.

Infanti made his Broadway debut in 1964, appearing in Rugantino. His stage work placed him among the Italian performers who brought the production to American audiences during that period.

On screen, Infanti is perhaps most recognized internationally for his role as Fabrizio in Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather. The character served as a bodyguard to Michael Corleone during Michael's time in hiding in Sicily, but ultimately betrayed him by planting explosives in his car, an act that resulted in the death of Michael's new bride rather than Michael himself. In Mario Puzo's source novel, Fabrizio is later killed in revenge for the bombing. A scene depicting that retribution was filmed for the original motion picture but was removed before its theatrical release. The footage was subsequently restored and included in the 1977 television adaptation The Godfather: A Novel for Television, which combined the first two Godfather films and presented their events in chronological order, beginning with Vito Andolini's childhood in Sicily.

Infanti died on October 12, 2010, in Tivoli, Italy, following cardiac arrest.
