About
Angela Katherine Greene was born Angela Catherine Williams on 24 February 1921 in Dublin, Ireland, the only daughter of Margaret (née Greene) and Joseph Williams. At age six, she was adopted by her maternal uncle, Eddie Greene, and relocated to Flushing, Queens, in New York. Before pursuing a career in performance, she worked as a model with the John Robert Powers agency.
Greene made her Broadway debut in 1943, appearing in the musical Early to Bed. Her stage work preceded a film career that began taking shape in 1944, when she appeared in Hollywood Canteen, Mr. Skeffington, and The Very Thought of You, all in uncredited roles. She continued building her screen presence through the mid-1940s with parts in Mildred Pierce (1945), The Time, the Place and the Girl (1946), in which she played Elaine Winters, and Humoresque (1946). That same year she appeared in Cinderella Jones.
Her film work through the late 1940s included Stallion Road (1947), in which she played Lana Rock, as well as Love and Learn (1947), King of the Bandits (1947), and At War with the Army (1950), where she portrayed Mrs. Deborah Caldwell. Into the 1950s, Greene took on roles in Jungle Jim in the Forbidden Land (1952), A Perilous Journey (1953), The Lady Wants Mink (1953), Loose in London (1953), and The Royal African Rifles (1953). She played Aletha in Shotgun (1955) and appeared in Affair in Reno (1957) and Spoilers of the Forest (1957). Her science fiction credits included Night of the Blood Beast (1958), in which she played Dr. Julie Benson, and The Cosmic Man (1959), where she portrayed Kathy Grant.
Television work formed a significant part of her later career. She appeared in Alfred Hitchcock Presents in 1959, playing Mrs. Masterson in the episode "Dead Weight," and returned to the Hitchcock franchise in 1964 with a role as Lucy Phillips in The Alfred Hitchcock Hour episode "Night Caller." Additional television credits included Tales of Wells Fargo, The Donna Reed Show, and Perry Mason, in which she played Thelma Nichols in the 1959 episode "The Case of the Blushing Pearls." She also appeared in the Batman episode "The Joker Trumps an Ace" in 1966 as Mrs. Belmont, and took a role in Tickle Me (1965). Her final film appearance was as Mrs. Reed in Futureworld (1976).
In her personal life, Greene dated naval lieutenant John F. Kennedy before marrying Stuart Warren Martin on 7 December 1946. The couple divorced in 1975. She died of a stroke in Los Angeles on 9 February 1978, shortly before her 57th birthday.
