About
Andrew Durand is an American actor born on January 17, 1986, in Roswell, Georgia. His introduction to performance came through the Roswell Village Playhouse community theater, and he went on to attend North Springs High School before pursuing formal training at Boston Conservatory.
Following his graduation, Durand began his professional career in Boston, taking on the role of Fiddlin' John in Parade and Steve in Zanna, Don't! at SpeakEasy Stage Company in 2007. His Broadway debut came the following year when he joined the Tony Award-winning production of Spring Awakening as a replacement for the role of Georg. He subsequently appeared in two New York productions in the same year: The Burnt Part Boys, which ran Off-Broadway before transferring to Playwrights Horizons, and Yank! at York Theatre Company.
In 2012, Durand joined the Broadway cast of the Tony Award-winning play War Horse, portraying Albert Narracot. The following year he appeared at The Public Theatre in Love's Labour's Lost as Boyet, part of the theater's Shakespeare in the Park series in Central Park. His next Broadway credit came in 2018 with the premiere of Head Over Heels, the jukebox musical built around the music of The Go-Go's, in which he originated the role of Musidorus, remaining with the production through its closing in 2019. Later that same year he returned to Broadway in the premiere of Ink, playing Beverly/Christopher Timothy in the play, which received a Tony Award nomination for Best Play.
Durand originated the role of Beau in the 2023 Broadway premiere of Shucked, a musical with a book by Robert Horn and music and lyrics by Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. The performance earned him a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical. Between his Broadway engagements, he also appeared in the film Here Today and took part in New York City Center Encores! productions, playing Jim Farrell in the 2024 revival of Titanic and Rick Taylor in the 2025 revival of Bat Boy: The Musical.
In 2024, Durand starred as Elmer McCurdy in the Off-Broadway premiere of Dead Outlaw, a performance that earned him an Outer Critics Circle Award, a Clarence Derwent Award, and nominations for the Drama Desk Award, the Lucille Lortel Award, and the Drama League Distinguished Performance Award. When the production transferred to Broadway, Durand received a 2025 Tony Award nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, marking one of the most prominent recognitions of his career spanning Broadway appearances from 2006 through 2026.
