About
Andreas Katsulas (May 18, 1946 – February 13, 2006) was an American actor born in St. Louis, Missouri, to a working-class Greek-American family. He earned a master's degree in theatre from Indiana University Bloomington before embarking on a career that spanned stage, film, and television.
Katsulas trained and performed extensively in theater, spending fifteen years, from 1971 to 1986, with Peter Brook's International Theatre Company, where he took part in both improvisational and prepared theatrical productions across venues ranging from South American barrios to Lincoln Center. His stage work brought him to Broadway in 1983, where he appeared in La Tragédie de Carmen. Earlier television work included a recurring role on the CBS daytime drama Guiding Light, where he played Lucien Goff in 1981 and 1982.
His film credits include The Sicilian, Someone to Watch Over Me, Sunset, Next of Kin, Hot Shots! Part Deux, and Executive Decision. He portrayed the one-armed villain Fredrick Sykes in the 1993 film The Fugitive.
On television, Katsulas became widely recognized for two recurring science fiction roles: Romulan Commander Tomalak on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and Narn Ambassador G'Kar on Babylon 5, a part he held as a series regular from 1994 to 1998.
Katsulas died of lung cancer on February 13, 2006, at the age of 59. He was survived by his wife, Gilla Nissan Katsulas, and his two children from a previous marriage, Michael and Katherine.
