Andrea Macasaet

Andrea Cesyl Macasaet is a Canadian actress and singer born on March 13, 1994, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Of Filipina descent, she was raised by parents who had both immigrated to Canada from the Philippines. Her introduction to musical theatre came through singing karaoke with her family as a child, and she went on to appear in youth productions of The King and I and Beauty and the Beast. She later pursued formal training at the Canadian College of Performing Arts, graduating in 2013.

After graduation, Macasaet encountered difficulty securing roles and took on work outside the performing arts. In 2015, she participated in the Canadian tour of Bubble Guppies: Ready to Rock!, a live concert tour based on the children's television series. Her first significant stage role came when she was cast as Kim in a regional production of Miss Saigon with the Victoria Operatic Society. Following further challenges in landing roles, she enrolled in the human resources program at the University of Winnipeg in 2018.

That same year, Macasaet attended an open casting call for Six: The Musical, where she was considered for both the roles of Anne Boleyn and Jane Seymour. She was ultimately cast as Anne Boleyn and performed the role on the North American pre-Broadway tour, which launched at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater in May 2019. The tour also played at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, and the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in Minnesota.

Six: The Musical was scheduled to open on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on March 13, 2020, which was also Macasaet's birthday, but all Broadway productions were suspended that day due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The show eventually opened on September 17, 2021, marking Macasaet's Broadway debut. She appeared on the live cast album recorded on opening night and remained with the production until December 4, 2022. Her performance earned her a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble in 2022.

In 2023, Macasaet was announced as a cast member for the Stratford Festival, where she was set to make her debut playing Mimi Márquez in Rent. The following year, she starred in the world premiere of Ma Buhay, an all-Filipino musical that opened at the Rainbow Stage in Winnipeg on June 27, 2024, and ran through July 14, 2024.
