About
Anastasia Barzee is an American actress from Miami, Florida, whose career has spanned Broadway, the West End, national tours, television, and film.
Barzee's stage career began in 1991 with the Los Angeles cast and national tour of City of Angels, in which she played Mallory/Avril. She subsequently appeared in the national tour of Sunset Boulevard in 1993 as an understudy for the role of Betty. Her Broadway work includes a run as Ellen in both the Broadway and touring productions of Miss Saigon from 1995 to 1998. From January 1999 to January 2000, she joined the Broadway cast of Jekyll & Hyde as a replacement in the role of Emma Carew, performing opposite Rob Evan and Luba Mason.
In 2000, Barzee originated the role of Josephine in the West End production of Napoleon, appearing alongside Paul Baker and Uwe Kröger. That same year she can be heard on the Original London Cast recording of the show. In 2002, she played Beth in Merrily We Roll Along at the Kennedy Center, and joined the Broadway cast of Urinetown as Hope, a role she held through 2003. She also originated the role of Lady Mortimer in the Broadway production of Henry IV, a staging that combined Parts 1 and 2, directed by Jack O'Brien and featuring Kevin Kline, Audra McDonald, and Dana Ivey.
Barzee originated the role of Betty Haynes in the national tour of Irving Berlin's White Christmas, which ran from 2004 to 2006, and her performance is preserved on the White Christmas World Premiere Stage Recording. Her Broadway credits span the period from 1991 to 2005 and include Urinetown, Henry IV, Miss Saigon, and White Christmas, among other productions.
Her television appearances include Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Law & Order, Get a Life, Murder She Wrote, Designing Women, and Herman's Head. In 2010, she appeared in the feature film Fair Game, directed by Doug Liman and starring Sean Penn. Barzee released her debut solo album, The Dimming of the Day, in 2011 on Ghostlight Records. In 2023, she participated in productions of The King and I and Mr. Holland's Opus.
