About

Amy Hill is an American actress and stand-up comedian born on May 9, 1953, in Deadwood, South Dakota. Her father, Archie Russell Hill, was a Finnish American who died in an automobile accident when Hill was 26 years old, and her mother, Ayako Yoneoka Hill, was a Japanese national who lived from 1914 to 2008. Early in her career, Hill worked with the Asian American Theater Company in San Francisco, California, and developed a trilogy of one-woman shows titled Tokyo Bound, Reunion, and Beside Myself.

Hill's first major television role came as Yung-Hee "Grandma" Kim on Margaret Cho's sitcom All-American Girl. Following that show's cancellation, she appeared on Maybe This Time as Kay Ohara, working alongside Betty White and former All-American Girl co-star Ashley Johnson. She went on to accumulate an extensive list of recurring television roles, including Mrs. DePaulo on That's So Raven, Mama Tohru on Jackie Chan Adventures, Mrs. Hasagawa on both Lilo & Stitch: The Series and its source film, Ah-Mah Jasmine Lee on The Life and Times of Juniper Lee, Mah Mah Ling on American Dad!, Beverly Tarantino on Mom, and Ms. Mannering on Preacher. She also held recurring roles as the upstairs neighbor of Monica and Rachel on Friends, as the lesbian daughter of Pat Morita's character on The Hughleys, as Penny Candy on The Puzzle Place, as Maureen Nervosa on Frasier, as Dr. Lauren Brown on General Hospital, and as Suji on The Naked Truth. In the sixth-season finale of Seinfeld, she portrayed Frank Costanza's long-lost girlfriend from his Korean War service.

Hill served as a series regular on the Amazon Prime Video series Just Add Magic, playing Mama P, and held recurring roles on Unreal as Dr. Wagerstein and on the CW musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend as Lourdes Chan. From 2018 to 2021, she co-starred in the reboot series Magnum P.I. as Teuila "Kumu" Tuileta, the cultural curator of Robin Masters' estate. She also appeared in Season 2, Episode 10 of Curb Your Enthusiasm in 2001, and guest-starred on programs including Night Court, Six Feet Under, Desperate Housewives, Two and a Half Men, King of the Hill, 3rd Rock from the Sun, The Sarah Silverman Program, and My Wife & Kids. She voiced Pang Bing, the antagonist in the series finale of Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, and had a recurring role on Enlightened as Judy Harvey.

Her film credits include Mrs. Ho-Kym in Next Friday, Mrs. Kwan in The Cat in the Hat, Sue in 50 First Dates, and roles in Max Keeble's Big Move, Big Fat Liar, Let's Go to Prison, Big Gay Love, and Lilo & Stitch, the last of which she reprised in the 2025 live-action adaptation. On stage, Hill appeared on Broadway in 1998 in the comedy Twelfth Night. She was nominated for a regional Los Angeles Area Emmy as writer and host of Get Real, an Asian-American teen talk show on KSCI.
