About

America Athene Olivo was born on January 5, 1978, in Van Nuys, California, and holds both American and Canadian citizenship. Her mother, Danica d'Hondt, of Belgian and Irish descent, was Miss Canada in 1959, and her father, Nello Olivo, is a winemaker of Italian and Basque descent. In 2009, Olivo married actor Christian Campbell following an engagement of two weeks; the ceremony took place on Lake Como in Lombardy, Italy. The couple's first daughter was born in 2012 and died three days later from Edwards syndrome, a genetic condition. Olivo and Campbell subsequently became spokespeople for the BabyQuest Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping individuals and couples pursue advanced fertility treatments. Their second daughter was born in 2019.

Olivo built her early career across music, modeling, and theater. As a member of the band Soluna, she gained industry visibility that led her back to stage work. In 2007, she originated the role of Marie in the musical Hotel C'est L'Amour at The Blank Theatre in Los Angeles, earning a nomination for an LA Weekly Theater Award for that performance. That same year, she completed the feature films The Last Resort and Love Shack. In 2008, she appeared in The Thirst: Blood War alongside Tony Todd and Jason Connery, as well as the theatrical release Circle. Her 2009 film credits include the action-comedy Bitch Slap and the Friday the 13th remake produced by Michael Bay, both in leading roles. Also in 2009, she appeared on the cover of the June issue of Playboy, with interior photographs shot by Terry Richardson.

On Broadway, Olivo joined Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark as a swing and understudy for the lead role of Arachne. Previews began on November 28, 2010, and when lead actress Natalie Mendoza suffered a concussion at that first preview, Olivo stepped into the role for several weeks in December 2010. The physically demanding part required aerial sequences, including being spun upside-down. When Mendoza permanently left the production, the role was assigned to T.V. Carpio rather than Olivo, who continued as understudy. Olivo performed the role again in March 2011 when Carpio was injured and withdrew for two weeks. She departed the show on April 17, 2011, when it closed for revisions, and did not return when performances resumed on May 12. The production is listed among her Broadway credits for 2011.

Olivo's screen work extends across both film and television. She filmed the feature Neighbor in February 2009, where she met her future husband. Subsequent film credits include Maniac, a remake starring Elijah Wood; No One Lives, starring Luke Evans; Conception, starring David Arquette; and the spy action film Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, released in 2015. In 2013, she and Campbell began developing a script based on the life of her uncle, Olympic gold medal winner Walter D'Hondt. Her television appearances include guest roles on House, General Hospital, How I Met Your Mother, Blue Bloods, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, NCIS: Los Angeles, Warehouse 13, and a recurring role on Degrassi: The Next Generation. She also joined the cast of Chicago PD, a spin-off of Chicago Fire. Alongside her acting work, Olivo has continued to record original music and perform covers for film projects.
