Amanda Lawrence

Amanda Lawrence is a British actress whose career spans theatre, television, and film across the United Kingdom and the United States. She received her theatrical training at Bretton Hall College and began building her stage experience at the Edinburgh Fringe before relocating to London to pursue a broader performance career.

Her London stage work included productions of Brief Encounter, Playing the Victim, and The Firework-Maker's Daughter. In 2009, Lawrence led the London production of Jiggery Pokery. Her theatre career continued to develop through the following decade, and in 2017 she appeared in a National Theatre production of Angels in America. The following year, she brought that production to Broadway, appearing in both Angels in America: Millennium Approaches and Angels in America: Perestroika in 2018. She returned to the London stage in 2019 with a production of Top Girls.

Lawrence's screen career gained momentum in the 2010s with television appearances including Above Suspicion, Dead Boss, Midsomer Murders, and Mr Selfridge. Her film credits from the same period include Womb (2010) and Suffragette (2015). In 2017, she took on the role of Resistance commander Larma D'Acy in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a role she later reprised in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Her television work continued into 2020, when she played Barbara Farrell in the Father Brown episode "The Fall of the House of St Gardner" and portrayed DC Sarah Raymond in the ITV two-part drama Honour. That same year she appeared in White House Farm as Barbara Wilson. Lawrence subsequently joined the cast of the children's historical drama series Malory Towers as Matron Shipley for the show's fifth season, and won the Children's and Family Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Performer at the third annual ceremony.
