Amanda Duff (March 6, 1914 – April 6, 2006) was an American actress who worked in both stage and film. Born in Fresno, California, she grew up in Santa Barbara and later studied music at Mills College before pursuing piano studies in New York City.
Her Broadway career began in 1936 when playwright Robert E. Sherwood cast her in Tovarich, in which she played Helene DuPont, the daughter of a wealthy family. The production marked her entry into professional performance and brought her to the attention of the film industry.
Duff's screen work included a number of films in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Her credits encompass Just Around the Corner (1938), Mr. Moto on Danger Island (1938), Hotel for Women (1939), The Three Musketeers (1939), The Escape (1939), City of Chance (1940), Star Dust (1940), and The Devil Commands (1941).
In 1939, Duff married screenwriter and film director Philip Dunne, and the couple had three daughters together. After retiring from acting, she turned to photography. Her photographs of American children were among the images selected for inclusion in "Glimpses of the USA," a presentation featured at the American National Exhibition in Moscow in 1959.
Duff died of cancer in San Francisco, California, on April 6, 2006, at the age of 92. She was survived by three daughters, a brother, and two grandchildren.
