About

Alyssa Joy Fox, born December 19, 1986, is an American stage actress and singer from Dallas, Texas, whose career has been defined largely by her long association with the musical Wicked.

Growing up in Dallas, Fox sang in her church choir and performed in church and school productions from a young age. Her ambitions initially centered on becoming a professional singer, with Disney princess stories serving as an early introduction to musical storytelling. It was during her senior year of high school, upon discovering the cast recording of Wicked, that she redirected her focus toward musical theater. She later relocated to Oklahoma City for college but left before completing her degree, accumulating significant student debt and taking an hourly retail job at a mall to support herself.

Fox's pursuit of Wicked's signature role of Elphaba began in 2008, when she auditioned at an open cattle call. A series of callbacks in both San Francisco and New York followed, ultimately leading to her joining the San Francisco production in March 2010 as an ensemble member covering Elphaba. She understudied Eden Espinosa and later Marcie Dodd during that engagement, performing the role twice before the production closed in September 2010. After relocating to New York and again working an hourly job, she joined Wicked's national tour in October 2012, standing by for Christine Dwyer, Jennifer DiNoia, and Laurel Harris. In January 2015 she assumed the role of Elphaba full-time on tour, playing her final performance in that capacity on December 6, 2015.

Fox made her Broadway debut on February 2, 2016, transferring to the Broadway company of Wicked as the Elphaba standby, covering Rachel Tucker and DiNoia during that first stint. She remained with the production until June 11, 2017. She next joined the original Broadway cast of Frozen as the standby for Elsa, a position she held for the production's entire run from March 2018 until the show closed in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Fox returned to the Broadway production of Wicked in October 2021, once more standing by for DiNoia, who had stepped into the Elphaba role full-time while Lindsay Pearce recovered from an injury. When Pearce returned and DiNoia resumed standby duties in December 2021, Fox departed the company. She subsequently provided emergency coverage for the role, performing on the national tour in December 2021 and on Broadway in January 2022. In July 2022 she was again installed as the Broadway Elphaba standby, this time covering Talia Suskauer, a position she held until February 2023.

On March 7, 2023, after thirteen years with the show in various capacities, Fox took over the role of Elphaba full-time in the Broadway production, performing opposite McKenzie Kurtz as Glinda. She appeared in the show's 20th-anniversary performance during this run. Her final performance as Elphaba came on March 3, 2024, after which she was succeeded by Mary Kate Morrissey, who had previously stood by for Fox in both the touring and Broadway productions.

In June 2025, Fox was cast as Jenna in Theatre Raleigh's production of Waitress.
