About

Alison Nicole Luff is an American actress and singer born on December 20, 1988, in Spring, Texas. A performer with a Broadway career spanning from 2001 to 2024, Luff has built a body of work across musical theatre, national tours, and television.

Luff's engagement with performance began at an early age. At six, she started singing and dancing with Encore Youth Performers, and by seven had moved into community theater. By age ten she was working in professional theater. She attended Klein Collins High School in Harris County, Texas, where she continued performing in school productions. Her portrayal of Éponine in the school's staging of Les Misérables earned her a best actress nomination at the Tommy Tune Awards, and her performance as Annabel Glick in Lucky Stiff brought her a best actress win at a ceremony held at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. After high school, she worked and saved money before relocating to New York City.

Luff made her Broadway debut in the ensemble of Mamma Mia!, understudying the roles of Ali and Sophie. She departed the production on January 1, 2012, and subsequently joined its national tour. She then understudied the role of Aimee Semple McPherson in the short-lived Broadway musical Scandalous, followed by understudying Molly in Ghost the Musical, a role she had the opportunity to perform. She also appeared in The Who's Tommy and the play Julie during her Broadway career.

Her first major starring role came when she was cast as Elphaba in the first U.S. national tour of Wicked, a run that lasted from April 30, 2013, to April 20, 2014. She then joined the Broadway production of Matilda as Miss Honey, performing in that role from September 6, 2014, to September 6, 2015. In late 2015, she originated the role of Charlie Jane at the Pasadena Playhouse in Breaking Through, remaining with the production until it closed on November 22, 2015. Luff returned to Broadway in 2016 as Fantine in the revival of Les Misérables, playing the role from February 2016 until the production closed in September of that year.

Luff created the role of Rachel in the pre-Broadway tour of Escape to Margaritaville, which ran from October 20 to December 2, 2017, and carried the role into the Broadway production, which ran from March 15 to July 1, 2018. She subsequently starred as Jenna in Waitress on Broadway from July 23, 2019, to September 15, 2019. In October 2024, she began playing Anne Hathaway in the Broadway production of & Juliet.

Beyond the stage, Luff appeared in a lead role in the Starz drama series Heels from 2021 to 2023.
