Alice Haining

Alice Haining is an American actress born on October 8, 1957, in Jackson, Mississippi. She is the daughter of Dr. Joe L. Haining, a research chemist, and Jean Haining, a teacher. Haining was valedictorian of her graduating class at both Woodland Hills Academy and Mississippi College, where she earned degrees with majors in English and modern languages in 1981. Prior to establishing herself in New York, she worked in television production in her home state, producing Figure Out, a children's program for Mississippi Educational Television.

Haining built much of her professional reputation in daytime television. She began her soap opera career in 1982 portraying Jodie Fields on Search for Tomorrow, then moved to All My Children in 1984, where she took on the role of Liza Colby, succeeding Marcy Walker in the part. From 1985 to 1986, she played Cecilia Thompson Sowolosky on Loving. Her most prominent daytime role came with the CBS soap opera As the World Turns, on which she portrayed Angel Lange Snyder from 1988 to 1994.

Her stage work spans Broadway, off-Broadway, and regional productions. In 1991, Haining appeared on Broadway at the Circle in the Square Theatre in On Borrowed Time, a play written by Paul Osborn, in which she portrayed the character Marcia Giles. Her off-Broadway credits include Helen in Emerald City in 1988, Beth in Swim Visit in 1990, Armande in The Learned Ladies in 1991, and Tood in The Cover of Life in 1994. Her film appearances include A Shock to the System in 1990 and Top of the World in 1994.
