About
Alice Dunning Lingard (29 July 1847 – 25 June 1897) was an English actress who built her career across England, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand, and was the wife of mimic and comic William Lingard.
Born in London, Lingard made her stage debut at the Grecian Theatre in that city. In 1866 she married William Lingard, and two years later she traveled to the United States for the first time, accompanied by her sister Harriet Dunning. Harriet, who performed under the stage name Dickie Lingard, later became Lady Dalziel as the wife of Baron Davison Dalziel of Wooler. Lingard's American stage debut came on 11 August 1868, when she appeared in the role of Widow White in Mr. and Mrs. Peter White.
Her Broadway career spanned from 1869 to 1882. During that period she starred in The Maid and the Magpie and Pluto, and also appeared in Divorçons.
Lingard died on 25 June 1897 and was buried at Brompton Cemetery in London.
