Alice Davenport, born Alice Shepphard on February 29, 1864, in New York City, was an American actress whose career spanned both stage and screen. She died on June 24, 1936, in Los Angeles.
Davenport began performing at the age of five, establishing a foundation in theater that would carry through her professional life. Her Broadway appearances came late in her career, between 1929 and 1930, when she appeared in two productions: Dora Mobridge and Remote Control. Her screen career ran concurrently with and well beyond her stage work, encompassing 140 film appearances between 1911 and 1930.
In her personal life, Davenport was married to Harry Davenport, an actor and director who worked in both silent film and sound pictures. The marriage ended in divorce in 1896. Their daughter, Dorothy Davenport, also became an actress. Davenport subsequently married Edwin H. Morse.
