Ali Ewoldt

Ali Ewoldt is an American theatre actress born on October 6, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois, to a Filipina mother and a Euro-American father. She was raised in Pleasantville, New York, where she began performing in a regional theater as a child and continued in musical theatre throughout high school. She went on to graduate cum laude from Yale University.

Before her Broadway career, Ewoldt performed the role of Princess Jasmine at Disneyland and worked at the Tokyo Disney theme park. She subsequently joined a U.S. tour of Les Misérables, beginning as a member of the ensemble before understudying the role of Cosette and eventually taking on the role during the run of the tour. That progression led directly to her Broadway debut in the 2006 revival of Les Misérables, in which she played Cosette.

Between 2009 and 2011, Ewoldt starred in both the North American tour and the 50th anniversary international tour of West Side Story. She later appeared in a tour of The King and I in 2015, playing Tuptim, before joining the Broadway revival of that production the same year. Her regional theatre credits include the role of Luisa in The Fantasticks at the Mt. Washington Valley Theatre Co.

On June 13, 2016, Ewoldt joined the Broadway company of The Phantom of the Opera, becoming the first Asian-American actress to star as Christine Daaé in that production. Away from Broadway, she sang the role of Briella, based on the character Dorabella, in Salastina's world premiere of Vid Guerrerio's OC Fan Tutte in Los Angeles, an updated English-language adaptation of Mozart's 1790 opera Così fan tutte.
