About

Alfred Drayton (1 November 1881 – 26 April 1949) was a British stage and film actor whose career spanned several decades across the West End, Broadway, and cinema.

Before entering the professional theater, Drayton worked in a brewery at the age of 18. His amateur dramatics experience led him to pursue a stage career, and he made his professional debut in The Beloved Vagabond at Cardiff in 1908. The following year he appeared in London for the first time at the Haymarket Theatre. A number of West End productions followed before he transitioned into film work, with screen credits including Bulldog Drummond in 1921 and Dear Brutus in 1922. He also starred in the 1931 musical For the Love of Mike.

Drayton brought his stage work to New York during the mid-to-late 1920s, appearing on Broadway between 1925 and 1928. His Broadway credits included the play The High Road and the play These Charming People.

A notable professional partnership defined a significant portion of his later career. Drayton collaborated repeatedly with actor Robertson Hare, a veteran of the Aldwych Farces, in productions for both stage and screen. At the time of his death on 26 April 1949, Drayton was performing alongside Hare in the play One Wild Oat at the Garrick Theatre.
