About
Alexander Davion (March 31, 1929 – September 28, 2019) was a French-born British actor whose career spanned stage, film, and television across several decades. Born in Paris, France, he died in London, England at the age of 90.
Davion made his Broadway appearances between 1955 and 1961, performing in two productions: the comedy The Matchmaker and The Caretaker. His stage work ran concurrently with an active screen career that began in the early 1950s with uncredited film appearances, including a small role in Captain Horatio Hornblower in 1951 and The Good Die Young in 1954. He received an on-screen credit as a Messenger to Richard in the 1955 film Richard III, and went on to portray Frédéric Chopin in Song Without End in 1960.
His film work through the 1960s included the horror film Paranoiac, in which he played Tony Ashby, and Plague of the Zombies, where he appeared as Harry Denver. He provided the voice of Space Captain Greg Martin in the 1966 animated feature Thunderbirds Are GO and took on the role of Ted Casablanca in the 1967 Hollywood production Valley of the Dolls. Later film credits included The Royal Hunt of the Sun in 1969 and Dark Echoes in 1982.
On British television, Davion became particularly well known for his starring role as Detective Chief Inspector David Keen in Gideon's Way, appearing across 26 episodes from 1964 to 1966. His television work also included appearances on Perry Mason, Combat!, The Saint, UFO, The Professionals, and the 1984 television film Arch of Triumph. American television credits included roles in One Step Beyond and the series Custer, in which he portrayed Captain Marcus Reno.
In his personal life, Davion was married twice, first to actress Ellen Caryl Klein and later to actress Anne Lawson, whom he wed in 1965.
