Aldis Hodge

Aldis Alexander Basil Hodge is an American actor born on September 20, 1986, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, which is located in Onslow County. His parents, Aldis Basil Hodge and Yolette Evangeline Richardson, both served in the U.S. Marine Corps, with his mother originally from Florida and his father from Saint Thomas. His older brother, Edwin Hodge, is also an actor.

Hodge made his Broadway debut in 1994, appearing in the musical Show Boat. As a child, he studied both the clarinet and the violin, and he continues to play the violin. He later attended ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California.

In 2007, Hodge was cast as Alec Hardison in the TNT series Leverage, a role for which he received a Saturn Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor on Television in 2009. His screen credits span a range of prominent projects, including the role of MC Ren in the 2015 biopic Straight Outta Compton, Levi Jackson in the 2016 film Hidden Figures, and Noah in the WGN America series Underground. He portrayed Jim Brown in the 2020 film One Night in Miami and took on the role of Decourcy Ward in the Showtime series City on a Hill beginning in 2019. In 2014, he was cast in Randall Miller's Midnight Rider, a biopic of Gregg Allman. He portrays Carter Hall, known as Hawkman, in the DC Studios film Black Adam alongside Dwayne Johnson, and voices John Stewart in the animated film Green Lantern: Beware My Power. In October 2022, he was announced as the lead in the Amazon Prime Video series Cross, based on James Patterson's Alex Cross novels.

Beyond acting, Hodge writes, paints, and designs watches. He is a self-taught horologist who has developed his own luxury watch brand, A. Hodge Atelier, and has spoken publicly about the need for greater diversity in the watchmaking industry. In 2018, he collaborated with painter Harmonia Rosales on a series of paintings titled Through the Looking Glass, which was exhibited in Los Angeles from January 10 to 14 of that year.
