Albert Cavens

Albert Cavens (October 1, 1906 – December 17, 1985) was a Belgian-born American actor whose career spanned several decades across film, television, and stage. The son of Fred Cavens, a Hollywood fencing instructor, he relocated to the United States shortly after his birth.

Cavens began performing at the age of eight, appearing in several films in 1914, among them The Town of Nazareth, which also featured Charlotte Burton. Following that early burst of activity, he stepped away from acting for more than three decades before returning to the profession as an adult.

His return to performing brought one of his most notable roles: Valvert, the nobleman who engages in a duel with Cyrano while Cyrano simultaneously composes a poem, in the 1950 production of Cyrano de Bergerac. Given his father's background as a fencing instructor, the casting carried a particular resonance. From 1950 through 1969, Cavens worked steadily in both film and television, including an appearance in Star Trek in 1969 that came shortly before his retirement from acting.

His stage work included a Broadway appearance in 1968 in Cyrano de Bergerac. Cavens died on December 17, 1985, and was buried at Grand View Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California.
