About
Aidy Bryant is an American actress, comedian, and writer born on May 7, 1987, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Georganne and Tom Bryant. Of English, Irish, and German descent, Bryant grew up in Phoenix, where her parents enrolled her in improv workshops at the Arizona Jewish Theatre Company. She graduated from Xavier College Preparatory in 2005 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College Chicago in 2009, where she studied in the comedy program developed jointly by the Theatre Department and The Second City.
Following her graduation, Bryant performed with the musical improv group Baby Wants Candy before joining the Chicago comedy circuit, working with iO Chicago, The Second City, and the Annoyance Theatre. At The Second City, she served as both writer and ensemble member on the productions "Sky's the Limit, Weather Permitting" and "We're All In This Room Together." It was at the Annoyance Theatre in 2008 that she met comedian and writer Conner O'Malley; the two became engaged in 2016 and married on April 28, 2018.
Bryant joined Saturday Night Live as a featured player on September 15, 2012, during the show's 38th season, and was promoted to repertory player in her second season. She remained with the program for ten seasons, departing at the close of the 47th season in 2022. Her work on SNL earned her three Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including two for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. In 2014, she shared an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the sketch "Home for the Holiday (Twin Bed)," which aired on December 21, 2013, alongside Eli Bruggemann, Chris Kelly, Sarah Schneider, and Kate McKinnon.
Beyond SNL, Bryant took on a recurring role in the second season of IFC's Comedy Bang! Bang! in 2013, playing the show's segment producer. In 2016, she appeared in a recurring role as Alice in Louis C.K.'s series Horace and Pete. The following year, she voiced the main character D.D. Danger in the animated series Danger & Eggs. In 2019, Bryant starred in the Hulu series Shrill, on which she also served as co-writer and co-executive producer; the show ran for three seasons, concluding in May 2021. Her work on Shrill brought her a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. In 2022, she voiced the character Emmy in Human Resources, an adult animated Netflix series and spin-off of Big Mouth, which premiered on March 18, 2022. That same year, she directed a music video for the song "Hurricane" by country duo Plains.
In February 2024, Bryant hosted the Independent Spirit Awards, and in October 2024 it was announced she would return to host the ceremony again in 2025. That same year, Bryant made her Broadway debut in All In: Comedy About Love. She is also set to star in the upcoming Peacock dramedy Lonely Hearts Club.
