Adrienne Marden, born Mabel Adrienne Baruch on September 2, 1909, in Cleveland, Ohio, was an American actress whose career spanned stage, film, radio, and television. She was the daughter of Lenore (Stein) and Ralph Baruch. Marden died on November 9, 1978.
Marden's early training took shape at the University of Michigan, where she participated in dramatic programs, and she built foundational experience performing with stock theater companies in Cleveland. She also directed musicals in small Ohio towns before relocating to California, where she joined the Pasadena Playhouse. One of her earliest film appearances came in Rasputin and the Empress (1932), in which she played a czar's daughter and received billing under the name Mabel Marden.
Her Broadway career extended from 1934 to 1944 and encompassed four productions. She made her Broadway debut in Merrily We Roll Along in 1934, followed by The Old Women, The American Way in 1938, and Hickory Stick in 1943. In 1935, she appeared in the summer stock cast at Elitch Theatre.
Beyond the stage, Marden worked extensively in radio, taking on the role of Patricia Jordan in The Story of Bess Johnson and appearing on the American Drama School of the Air. From the 1950s through the 1970s, she made multiple guest appearances on television.
In her personal life, Marden married actor Whit Bissell on November 23, 1938; the couple divorced on September 17, 1953. On August 12, 1956, she married actor Wendell Holmes in Santa Monica, California.
