Adrianna Hicks

Adrianna Hicks is a musical theatre actress whose Broadway career spans from 2014 to 2022, encompassing starring roles in Some Like It Hot and The Color Purple as well as appearances in SIX: The Musical and Aladdin. She is recognized for originating the role of Catherine of Aragon in the Broadway production of SIX and for playing Sugar in the musical adaptation of Some Like It Hot.

Hicks grew up in McKinney, Texas, where she sang in church choirs before taking up the flute in her school band. Her introduction to musical theatre came during her sophomore year at McKinney High School. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre from the University of Oklahoma Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre in 2011, supported by a scholarship from the Congressional Black Caucus.

Before arriving on Broadway, Hicks launched her professional career in Europe with Stage Entertainment, performing in Dirty Dancing — The Classic Story on Stage and Sister Act in Germany, and in Legally Blonde in Austria. Her Broadway debut came in 2015, when she joined The Color Purple as a swing. She subsequently appeared in Aladdin before returning to The Color Purple on the national tour, this time in the leading role of Celie. In 2018, she reprised that role in a production of The Color Purple at the Paper Mill Playhouse, directed by John Doyle.

In 2019, Hicks joined the North American premiere cast of SIX as Catherine of Aragon. The production moved toward Broadway, beginning previews in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of Broadway. The show ultimately opened in 2021, and Hicks and her castmates received the newly created Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble in 2022 in recognition of their performances. On August 7, 2022, Hicks departed SIX to take on the role of Sugar in Some Like It Hot, a character originated on screen by Marilyn Monroe. On November 1, 2024, it was announced that Hicks would return to the Broadway production of SIX to reprise the role of Catherine of Aragon through February 17, 2025.
