About

Adrian Gerald Foley, 8th Baron Foley, was a British hereditary peer, composer, pianist, and Broadway performer. Born on 9 August 1923, he inherited his title at the age of three following the 1927 death of his father, Gerald Foley, 7th Baron Foley. He spent his childhood in Eastbourne, England.

Foley demonstrated an early aptitude for composition, completing the song London I Cannot Leave You in 1940 at the age of seventeen. Two years later, in 1942, he composed Wishing You Well, Mr Stalin in support of Britain's Soviet wartime ally. His work extended to film scoring, with credits including Piccadilly Incident in 1946 and Bond Street in 1947. In 1957, he made an appearance on the American television game show To Tell the Truth.

Foley's Broadway career brought him to New York City in 1958, when he appeared in a stage production of the drama Jane Eyre, produced by Huntington Hartford. It was during this production that he met Patricia Meek, née Zoellner, a wealthy American heiress. The two married on 23 December 1958 and had two children, Alexandra Mary, born in 1960, and Thomas Henry, born in 1961, before divorcing in 1971.

In 1972, Foley married Ghislaine, née Dresselhuys, the only daughter of Cornelius William Dresselhuys, a Dutch-born Long Island resident and former Consul of the Netherlands in London, and Edith Merandon du Plessis. Ghislaine had previously been married to both the 6th Earl of Caledon and the 4th Baron Ashcombe. She died in 2000. On 15 December 2003, Foley married his third wife, Hannah Steinberg, a member of the Wolfson family.

In his later years, Foley maintained properties in the Andalusian region of Spain, near areas known for golf, as well as a residence in Belgravia, London. He lived in retirement near Marbella and died on 12 February 2012 in Kidderminster at the age of eighty-eight.
